Well, that’s where I come in. Hi, I am Adrianne Hillman, life coach, speaker, writer, mother, wife and former happyish person.
Not so long ago, I would whine to myself or to anyone who would listen about any woe I had—hoping upon hope that they would help me off of the side of the road. I was a mess. I thought if I talked about them enough, maybe my problems would fix themselves. I was draining my relationships and myself by becoming a perpetual fountain of resentment. I was living outside of my truth, and I had been for over a decade. It hit me one afternoon when I watched a video clip of two men telling their harrowing tale of fighting for their lives in the middle of the ocean after their boat capsized. They were slowly drowning. As each wave hit them, it got harder and harder to keep their heads above water. I realized that, in my own life I was barely surviving the waves, and as time passed, my head was descending further and further under the surface with each passing day. I was getting closer and closer to death—the death of the profoundly happy little girl I once was—and into a full-on downward spiral of resentment, anger and depression.
The difference between me and those men in the ocean?
No one came to rescue me from the storm and the waves. I had to rescue myself. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. I had to find the tools to teach me to how pull myself from the wreckage of the life I had created and learn from the experiences that shaped me.
